It is my understanding that at the next club meeting (Nov 4th) we will brake into groups by class and discuss what our wishes are for the 2009 rules. These requested changes will then be presented to Paul for final approval or disapproval. Please correct me if I misunderstood.
The outcome of the October's club meeting with regard to the rules change meeting was as follows:
The actual rules change discussion's will not take place during November's club meeting, it will take place sometime between then and the following meeting in December. In November's meeting, members of each class will determine a date and location for their class rule meeting. Each class may hold their meeting on a seperate date and location if they so choose, as long as they have a final proposal for the changes that will be reviewed and voted-in at the December club meeting.
From a technical standpoint, we, as a club, are the ones with the authority to approve any rules changes. However, that in mind, it is in the best interests of each class to include Paul in the discussions to ensure that no rules changes will be in direct conflict with the interests of the Deming Speedway.
Well... A 750lb weight class would cost you no money. A 1mm and 2mm over motor would also cost you no money since the cars running those motors are taking a weight penalty. Therefor costing you...No money. I am saying run the 1 and 2 over cars with the stock class.
775lb is a hard rule to accomidate with the racers getting smaller and younger and 750lb stock is standard in the rest of the country.
But why introduce complications in teching, increase variation in the field, and increase spending only to be weight handicapped?
A 750lb rule on its own certainly could cost some teams money. This is not a 14 and under class, we have drivers who have no problem making the 775 limit. What your're doing is asking them to spend money for lighter components, or run at a disadvantage. I only see this as having potential to reduce car count, and reduce competition.
Further engine mods only serve to widen the gap between the have's and the have nots- another good way to reduce car count.
I suspect if we were to see this pair of rules put in place, we'd have sub-100lb drivers in 636's anyway- defeating the concern of adding too much weight.
In my mind, the club should consider the following when analyzing rules changes: How does this affect the sustainability of the class? How does this affect competition in the class? How does this affect entry or operating costs of this class?
I am not posting this to argue,I am just throwing things out there. Either way it will not affect us 636 perfect, stock thats fine too! On the flip side could you draw some cars out of different regions if you had similiar rules across the Board? As far as the difference between 750 and 775 thats just a few more twinkies for the "sub" hundred pound drivers and about 15 more minutes a week on the treadmill for the others! I also believe the fans at Deming would be in for a real treat to have multi's running at there facility. I was able to take in two races there last year and walked away saying that was some of the best 600 micro racing that i have seen. Either way I will be there on playday with my stock motor and Deming Only Muffler and my Rd15 Rr and a 775lb micro with a smile on my face
I'll agree that the multis can put on a show, but the best 600 racing I've seen remains the wingless cars... Then again, I'm biased to all non-wing dirt cars. I ruined the Outlaw coverage on SPEED a couple weeks ago by watching highlights of the USAC-CRA oval nationals from Perris earlier that day. No contest on which was the better racing!
