As we all plan our course for the 2009 season, I thought it would be prudent to share my thoughts on this club, and the state of our sport going into another season.
The NMSA and Deming Speedway have seen incredible growth over the years. We've grown to 5 distinct classes of competition, offering an opportunity for teams of all budgets and skill levels to participate in our sport. The cars have evolved into works of technical art. The pit area has become increasingly busy with both Deming regulars, and those who will use their time in mini sprints as a stepping stone to other forms of motorsport. This club has produced some very talented drivers, who are winning races all across the country. I feel it is everyone's responsibility to ensure we sustain this club as a premier NW organization for both sustaining teams and those who intend to move on. Here are some principles I see as key in supporting our position.
Lead by example: When I first started coming to Deming, you had to be 16 to get in the pits. Today, we have some very young participants. I believe this club and it's members have a responsibility to lead by example. During their time with the NMSA, it is just as important for our drivers to learn sportsmanship as it is to learn setup and driving technique. We owe the same courtesy to the spectators and to each other. I believe this is a reasonable expectation.
Commitment to competition: In line with leading by example, I sincerely hope that our membership sees the merit of competing and succeeding within the rules we've agreed to. I look forward to watching and participating in clean close racing this year to ensure our fans keep coming back.
Community involvement: We have the ability to leverage our sport for the good of the local community. With the state of the economy, 2009 will likely be a tough year for community services and chartable organizations. While the NMSA has typically allocated funds in December for holiday events, I feel we are only scratching the surface of what we could do. I'd like everyone to think about what we can do to partner with other organizations and events to make a difference. This time next year, I'd like to look back and see the NMSA membership raised the bar for local racing organizations giving back.
.Looking forward to the Turner Family at the reins of NMSA club ,,saying that -not taking anything form the past members ..we can make 2009 a very fun and exciting racing sport for all ages with the most commendable facility "Deming Speedway" and all those who work and run the race track and of course the vendors supplying us with all are parts......
