Shawna @ Speedmart has the correct restricter plate for Deming. Thats about the only thing I can help you with. Hope you all have a good Holiday Season, Give everyone our best, Mad Macks Dad
I think many may be interested to hear more about the tracks intentions for this class. There was no formal mention of it from the club at the rules change meeting...
I don't know what size Deming and Speedmart decided on, but I can tell you that Delta's 5/8" restrictors are generally a second+ slower than the 250s, and their 3/4" seems to average around .2 seconds off 250s, occasionally matching speeds. Sure doesn't seem to warrant splitting up your car count more.
It seems every track has its own version of the 600 restricted. According to published online rule books: Delta runs Honda only (F2,F3 etc) while Lemoore allows other makes. Plaza Park allows the R6, GSXR, and F4, but offers a 35lb weight advantage to F2 and F3. Plaza Park's 05 rules don't allow injection in both stock and restricted classes. Many of these tracks also have a $2000 claimer on engines, and $200 claimer on CDI for their stock and restricted classes. They've been doing this for a while and know the nightmare that is teching a 4cyl 4stroke that is "stock". Some also have published compression limits, and spec tires that vary up to a D-30.
Lots to choose from, will be interesting to see how it works. After speaking to most of the 250 class, I haven't heard much about moving up. Most are very happy with the speed per dollar value of the 250 class. in fact, the 250 class has grown since season end, and there are cars returning to the track that have been in garages for a while. I wouldn't be suprised to see full B-mains next year in 250.
Sure makes sense to park what could be the largest local class for clay cup...
Brandon, it is great that you help out with info when you can, but where do come up with the numbers when you claim that there could be full "B" mains in the 250 class? It would be nice if you could show me where these phantom cars and people are coming from. If it is from the Jr Sprints who would it be ? And from what I understand last year there was several 250 jr parents that would not allow their kids to run in the adult class, so I am just a little confused as to who all these new cars would be. As for Clay Cup that would appear to be dead horse because they have already Posted that there would be no 250's. I guess it just seems to me that what you are saying may be possable if you combine everything that you had last year but it is really misleading to the real numbers and facts. Anyway that is my 2 cents.
I do commend you on being willing to discuss the situation, we need more people that are willing to speak their minds. How did you post as a non-registered user? The board must glitch like that sometimes i guess.
As of right now, there are at least 6 new drivers joining us in 250s for 2006, along with the majority of the current 250 and 250jr drivers from 2005. I do know at least one driver is moving up from JR sprints. I have also been in contact with several additional people who are looking into joining the 250 class. With complete operations as low as $2500, I still think it is very possible that more may look at the 250 as an affordable way to get on the track. There were several parents that weren't crazy about moving thier juniors up before they're ready, but with a Clay Cup A-main showing from Ms. Davies, I think they'll be just fine.
If you check the Mylaps site, you will find that the 250 classes combined count for September averaged 19.6 , while the 600's averaged 19 and the 1200's averaged 17. It only takes 26 to have a full 14 car B-main. So you see, I can justify that it is quite possible. It may be optimistic, but I guess I am willing to be optimistic about keeping micro racing alive and affordable. I certainly haven't heard anything to make me beleive otherwise.
I've seen Deming evolve a great deal since I was 4yrs old sitting on a cooler in 1986. Much of it has been great. Deming has become a premier west coast track, after starting as a dusty field of Sunday afternoon fun. Deming has unparalleled weekly purses, a well maintained facility and competitiveness that places like Skagit would love to have. However, I fear that if we continue to promote classes of more expensive cars, without an affordable alternative we will see more people look away to Karts, Legends, and other non-micro ventures. I'm just doing my part to promote the 250s, anyone is welcome to share their expenses and experience as we have. As i've said before, why else would Skagit have a hornet class? Why is the biggest car count for a dirt race in the USA the IMCA nationals? Because its fun and affordable. Thats what Deming has always been about. I admit that the 06 clay cup may be a dead horse, but my comment only referred to the logic, not the fact.
I have sold 3 250's in the last month and there have been 2 others sold in the last 2 months, out of the 5 cars 4 did not race at Deming and the other 1 raced 2 times at Deming. As for the comment about a full B main, there is not going to be 2 different 250 classes (250 adult - 250jr) next year as Paul has made the statement to me as he is combining the 2 classes. Most races last year you could see 12 adult 250's and 10 250jr's. with extra cars showing up now and then. With the cars that were sold and others I don't know about there should be a big field of cars. As for the parents not wanting to have there kids race with the adults there not much choice now it's either stay in the jrs (smaller cars) race with the adult 250's -or the 600 class. it being the 600 or the restricted 600's when that class starts. If you have any other questions you can post them here or call me and I would try and find the correct answer for you. You could also come to any club meeting they are in Bellingham at Little Caesars off Lakeway Dr. at 7:30 pm on the first wens. of the month. If there was a 250jr. class next year I know of 2 more families that would of bought cars by now and be racing next year 06 season. Thanks for letting me express my 2 cents.
Unfortonetly i sold 3 micros after we got back from Claycup to some local guys here in Oregon and they had visions of joining us up there next year and am in contact with 2 people right now that are on the fence as to the 250 class up there weather to buy a 250 and sit out claycup or spend more for a 600. The new local claycup wont get the responce of years past everyone knows that, but some of us are still holding on to them bringing back the class that kept the track alive for so long. I got $100 bucks says you will see a C main this year in the 250 class Mr. Vanderhoek.
If that happens great( C mains )But it does sound kinda silly when you say combined class ...No one that I know wants the 250 class to die.I wonder thoughiIf you all were this worked up when the 600 class got the boot a few years ago. Some people just like the 600 class. And all Steve was asking for was some info ...Not a 250 / 600 speech.Again I say no one love that track more then Paul and Bev , and they can and will do what they see fit.
I never said combined class, and Steve got his answer. I only responded to the miss info that Mr. Vanderhoek was stating. And we all know some like the 600s as well as i do ,only to watch. The 600s are easyer to drive and many have been spreading they are cheaper to maintain, my only feeling is if you are going to spend that much for a car you might as well buy a real sprint car.
Sorry Barrz.I was referring to a different post. You are right you did not say that.It just seems like every time there is a 600 post,It turns in to a 600 speech .I mean so they are going to have a restricted 600 class.I just do not understand why some drivers spend so much time trashing it .I'm sure the Lemleys have much more invested in Deming speedway then any of us.And we should all support them instead of citing reports from other tracks..This is Deming ..We are unique, but similar...
Personally I think the 600 restricted class is a great idea. When the kid gets older all you have to do is remove the restrictor plate. They also handle like the the big cars which is pretty cool. And they are very marketable.
Robin, i didnt mean they were the same dollar for dollar, i was only pointing out if you are going to spend that much for a mini sprint you might as well get a full size. And you and i both know it is easyer to get bigger and better paying sponcers on a full size, so it only makes sence.
