First let me say I'm a sportbike guy and I've never even seen a sprint car race let alone know much about them. I'm an electronics engineer by day and for fun I hack motorcycle ECUs. One of the bikes I first hacked was my ZX-12.
By hack I mean I have downloaded all the maps out of the ECU, can edit them and flash them back. This has been an open source project and everything I find I post here....
All the information you need to do it yourself is there. Of course after I posted all this info the majority of emails I got were not help me do it myself but rather, "Hey if I paid you some money would you do it for me?" So I started a small business offering the service for those who don't have the time, equipment, and/or skills to do it themselves.
Of course being able to reprogram the ignition maps, fuel maps etc. are great if your an engine tuner but not much use to the average guy. But recently I seem to be getting a lot of interest from sprint car guys on the east coast who just want me to do a one time reflash to raise their RPM limits. Apparently having an extra 800 rpms out of the corner is a big deal to you guys.
So yes I'm here to see if I can drum up a little business but also I'm more than willing to answer any questions anyone has about reprogramming the ECU themselves, what the maps are like, etc.
