Gary Taylor Wins Tulsa Shootout A-Class Main in XXX 600
The 24th annual Tulsa Shootout saw Gary Taylor decimate the field in the A-Class Main event in his XXX 600, giving Triple X Race Co their first Golden Driller Trophy. Team XXX Drivers Brady Bacon, Donnie Ray Crawford and Colton Heath also showed the capabilities of the XXX 600 chassis by consistently running strong all weekend long.
In the A-Class main event, Taylor took off on the start and in the words of ASCS press guru Lonnie Wheatley decimated the field with a convincing wire-to-wire victory. The weekend on a whole was a huge success, as Taylor secured his pole position by winning his Thursday heat race in overly convincing fashion. Taylor was also entered in the Outlaw division but opted not to run in his qualifying heat after securing the pole for the A-Class feature.
Open wheel hot-shoe Brady Bacon was set to give Triple X Race Co another main event victory in the Outlaw division. Bacons XXX 600 would sit on the pole position for the Outlaw main, and similar to Taylor in the A-Class, he jetted out to a stout lead on the start. Bacon paced the field for the first 19 circuits until a rear caliper failure finished his evening. It was a disappointment for Bacon after racing to third in his heat race and winning the Thursday night qualifier in his XXX 600.
Bacons teammate and noted 600 ace Donnie Ray Crawford enjoyed early success in his XXX 600 in the Outlaw class. Crawfords maiden voyage in the XXX 600 saw him secure a starting spot in the Outlaw feature event, something only 24 drivers out of 106 could say over the weekend. Look for Donnie Ray to put up big results in his XXX 600 down the road.
Triple X Race Co head welder Colton Heath really opened some eyes over the weekend at the Tulsa Shootout. A rookie competitor, Colton was hands down the fastest car on Thursday in Non Wing action, going eighth to second before being the victim of an incomplete slide job. After repairing the car, Colton took to the A-Class heat race where he went from seventh to fourth, qualifying him eighth for the A-Class main. Colton pulled his car from Outlaw and Non Wing competition to focus on the A-Class where he was all the way up to fourth before becoming a victim of rough driving yet again. For a rookie at the event with a brand new car, Heath opened up many eyes by passing so many cars.
Triple X Race Co wishes to congratulate Gary Taylor on winning the Golden Driller! We also wish to thank Team Tel-Star and the Crawford family for their on-site assistance all weekend.
